I have spent a lot of time in my life finding the perfect diet. I have researched everywhere: I read books, I listened to famous health gurus. I could not find the recipe for that. The real treasure awaited until I came across the truth of the Bible: the chapter on clean and unclean animals. Since then I have never eaten anything “unclean”.

The average person thinks all animals can be food which is not a pet. People all around the world consume everything that creeps on the face of the Earth.

Folks of the Western do not eat dogs, pets, or rat meat. But many other animals are also thought to be food that is completely unfit for human consumption: for example, pork and most seafood. In the East, rare wild animals, monkeys, dolphins, sharks, kangaroos, etc. are still eaten to this day. People don’t really reflect on what they eat, they just follow the traditions of their society and family. But, is there a better way?

What is the Creator’s message regarding the perfect diet for humanity?

Dietary law

There are clear and specific laws about clean and unclean animals in the Bible. Unclean animals are forbidden foods. Today, Christians generally do not follow these instructions anymore and eat without dietary restrictions. Is this for a good reason, or have we dismissed something important?

Where does “clean or unclean” come from?

The law of Moses

The law that ELOHIYM gave to Moses had a lot to say about animals. It detailed which animals were clean or unclean (see Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14). The entire chapter is about specifying the differences, and it concludes like this:

46 This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the Earth: 47 To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.”

Leviticus 11

So what animals does the Bible say not to eat? There are several criteria that distinguish one group from the other. Amazingly, our Creator has given man such clear descriptions.

3 Thou shalt not eat any abominable thing. 4 These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, 5 The hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois. 6 And every beast that parteth the hoof, and cleaveth the cleft into two claws, and cheweth the cud among the beasts, that ye shall eat. 7 Nevertheless these ye shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the cloven hoof; as the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but divide not the hoof; therefore they are unclean unto you. 8 And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase. 9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat: 10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.

Deuteronomy 14

“4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

Genesis 9

“17 It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.”

Leviticus 3

(A separate list applies to birds.)

Eating nature’s garbage bins

Take a shrimp, for example, a fantastic little creature that keeps the oceans clean. One of the ways it does that is by eating carcasses. So a shrimp is like nature’s garbage bin. How many of you would willingly eat a garbage bin? It does not sound too appealing. Yet many of nature’s garbage bins end up on people’s plates with all the toxins, parasites, and poisons that their bodies have taken up.

I am not food!

The cleaning crew of the waters

These animals are unfit for human consumption.

Clean animals, on the other hand, naturally eat only plants. This probably is the most distinct feature in the clean-unclean classification. The clean animals are herbivores, while the unclean animals are carnivores or scavengers. The fact that the body takes up what it eats is just one example of why you should not eat these unclean animals.

Body as a temple

Why did YAHUAH tell Noah, Moses, and His people throughout time to abstain from eating unclean animals? Is it to take away our pleasure? Of course not; it is simply to keep us healthy.

God tells us to treat our body as a temple (1 Corinthians 6:19). This principle of pursuing good health has not been only for a people of the past, but it is still oh so relevant for us today. And diet plays a vital role in that.

This stuff should never be on anybody’s plate.

Moreover, it is essential to note that God even calls it abominable to eat the unclean animals (Deuteronomy 14:3). It is not good to do in His sight, maybe for even more reasons than science has discovered so far.

The New Testament did not abolish the Dietary laws

One of the biggest mistakes of the Christian church is that they misinterpret specific passages of Scripture, such as

To understand those texts, you should read them in context. Christians are misled by the church think those texts allow them to eat anything that creeps on Earth. If you want to get the whole picture, you must consider both the writings of the Old and New Testaments.

Live The Creator’s Word Today!

Now we have understood the origin and reason behind the dietary laws. And we have established that the New Testament in no way tells the Believer today that anything changed and that we are free to eat anything we want. The unclean animals, such as shrimp, clam, octopus, eel, pig, horse, rabbit, etc., are still unclean today and should not be on the menu for the Believer. Keep in mind also that these are the dietary laws, not suggestions. Eating unclean animals is abominable to ELOHIYM.

Are you willing to open your fridge or freezer, throw out all the unclean food, and obey God’s dietary laws?

“43 Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby. 44 For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 45 For I am the Lord that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.”

Leviticus 11

Thanks to the cow’s sophisticated digestive system, it can digest the grass. Such is the deer or the sheep.

A pig would starve if it only got grass.

Everything you consume enters your bloodstream. Scripture reveals to us the secret that the soul is in the blood. What you eat is more important than you think. It is about the purity of your soul.

17 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

Leviticus 11

Each breath enriches your blood with fresh air and used air leaves you. According to Scripture, the breath is life itself and the soul: just as your breath mixes with your blood in your lungs, your soul may become unclean if you eat those animals. The dietary law is not just a bit of health advice, it has a much deeper significance. You can simply be a different, better person if you follow these rules, and a big step toward the right path that the Creator has set for mankind.

7 And YAHUAH ELOHIYM formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Genesis 2

Eating Unclean Animals Can Lead to Death

ELOHIYM has prophesied in detail about the fate of those who are eating unclean animals and following unclean practices when Jesus returns to establish God’s Kingdom.

15 For, behold, YAHUAH will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For by fire and by his sword will YAHUAH plead with all flesh: and the slain of the Lord shall be many. 17 They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine’s flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith YAHUAH.”

Isaiah 66

We now know that there are scriptures in both the old and new covenants that forbid eating unclean animals’ flesh and any blood. There are no scriptures that tell us that God permits us to eat unclean things. We must each choose whether we will follow ELOHIM’s Way or the world’s Way.
